The Frick’s no charge entry includes the art museum, Art, and Historical Center, and the Car and Carriage Museum. The Clayton, Frick’s family mansion, is available to be seen at an additional cost.

The Fricks collection of pieces that are always available to view include paintings, prints, decorative art, and even costumes. The impressive costume collection features over 2,000 pieces from the Pittsburgh Gilded Age. It is a step back in time to see these period pieces. There are objects including gowns and kids apparel. Some of the pieces in the collection belonged to the Frick family, and it is interesting to see what was worn in the 1800’s by a wealthy family at that time.

The most exciting part of the collection is how it arrived at the museum. Henry Clay Frick and his wife’s home is Clayton Mansion that’s located in the center of The Frick. They started collecting historical pieces and enjoyed adding to the collection. All the pieces featured in the museum’s collection had belonged to the Fricks. Henry Clay Frick’s daughter Helen continued to add to the collection because she shared the love of the arts. When she passed away, she left provisions to allow her family home and the property to be open to the public. The impressive mansion and museum will give visitors a glimpse into one of the wealthiest families that lived in Pittsburgh. The Frick continues to expand since its initial opening to include a cafe and the carriage house. If you are interested in older forms of transportation, then the carriage house is a must see. It has several of the family carriages and early automotive vehicles. Some of the old cars are very rare and hard to find, so it is impressive to get to see them up close. For instance, the collection has a 1931 Lincoln Model K.

Coming soon to the art museum is a collection from Paul Mellon’s collection that includes Van Gogh, Monet, and Degas pieces. The Frick is one of the first institutions to have these artworks on display. This collection features 70 paintings that are stunning. This exhibit covers 150 years of French art history.

If you are looking for a fun day out of the house, The Frick doesn’t disappoint. You can explore the art and history of Pittsburgh, and enjoy new exhibits that are on display. Many of the exhibits get extended due to popularity. From the gardens to the museums you will have a great time at the Frick.
