First, you may try to pour boiling water down the drain. This natural method can sometimes break down any soap or grease that is holding the shower drain clog together and thus remove the blockage. You can also use baking soda and vinegar as an alternative to harmful chemicals such as a drain cleaner. If it works for your shower, it will not cause damage to your plastic pipes.

Try using the plunger. A good plunger truly is a handy tool to have in the bathroom. You may have to remove the drain cover and pull out the clog by hand. It is advisable to wear gloves, as you can never be too sure what has been clogging your shower drain other than the obvious suspects. First, remove the drain cover. If there is a screw, then take it out or, in some cases, pry it off with a screwdriver. Look inside the pipe and locate the clog. Using a flashlight, pull the clog out with your fingers.
